6) Zara Sa / Haan Tu Hai– Jannat (2008) This listing just had to have two tracks. While Pritam scores the music for this movie, with one track by Pakistani singer Kamran Ahmed, it was nevertheless the KK tracks mentioned here that are the hit makers for the movie.
7) Guzarish – Ghajini (2008) Aamir literally rocks the songs and puts his feeling into it. He’s looking super hot in the song and it shows on screen too. Sung by Javed Ali and Sonu Nigam the song is one of the main hits in the movie.
8) Akele Hain To Kya Gum Hai (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak) (1988) The film soundtrack contains 5 songs composed by duo Anand – Milind. The music for ‘Akele Hain To Kya Gum Hai’ is copied note for note from the instrumental number ‘Return to the Alamo’ by the band The Shadows. The song was a hit in itself in the movie.
9) Tere Bina (Guru) (2006) The music is composed by A. R. Rehman all through, but it’s the love ballad, ‘Tere Bina’ which is timeless. The song is dedicated to the memory of Pakistani qawwali singer Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan since it was the 10th anniversary of his death.

1) Titanic (1997) Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Bill Paxton and Kathy Bates This is an all time favorite movie that is much admired by everyone even to this day. Packed with action, adventure and drama, not forgetting a great music score by James Horner, the movie centers on the life of a young lad Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) who wins a ticket on the cruise liner set to sail for New York. On board he comes in contact with Rose (Kate Winslet) who comes from high strata of society. Both fall in love on the ship, but Rose is to be engaged to someone else. Trouble erupts in their lives. At the same time the ship hits an iceberg. Many would know the rest of the story. One cannot forget those memorable dialogues like Jack telling Rose when she attempts suicide. "You're crazy..." "That's what everybody says. But with all due respect miss; I'm not the one hanging over the back of a ship here. Give me your hand. You don't want to do this." Jack shouts at the stern of the ship. "I'm The King of The World." Jack trying to dissuade Rose to jump into the water. “Water so cold, it could hit you like a thousand knives”. 2) Gone With the Wind (1939) Starring: Leslie Howard, Fred Crane, Oscar Polk and Howard Hickman. A romance and war flick that is still loved by all. It is an outstanding movie released towards the end of 1939. Two persons in love are torn apart when one of them proclaims his plan to marry his cousin. In spite of being persuasive nothing happens. Then on the first day of the Civil war someone else comes into her life that brings about a change forever.
3) Ghost (1990) Starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg Ghost is a different kind of love story, in that, the best parts of the film take place after one of the main character dies. It is the fictional story about life and death, because even after death, the interactions between the two main characters in the film are intoxicating. What normally would be the plot of a horror film, this one shows just how strong love can be, and that there are things that people can do to express their love even after they have passed away.
4) Casablanca (1942) Starring: Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Considered by many one of the greatest movies of all time, Casablanca weaves a love story within the tapestry of war, intrigue and heroism. Humphrey Bogart plays a saloon keeper heavily distraught over the future and the one time lover of Ingrid Bergman. When she wanders into his Gin Joint, the sparks begin to fly and the old romantic feelings are once again rekindled. Bogart does the hardest thing for any man in love. 5) The Notebook (2004) Starring: Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, Gena Rowlands This film may not have a great cast, but the story is one that reeks of romance. It's a film that truly reinvigorates ones belief that love is worth living and dying for. James Garner is the soft spoken type that every woman wants to spend the rest of her life with. But as the story unfolds you get to know reality in its true form. It really is about what vows and love were meant to be.
6) Pretty Woman (1990) Starring: Julia Roberts and Richard Gere In a ‘Cinderella’ story that made Julia Roberts a star, an LA corporate raider, played by Richard Gere, hires a hooker to pose as his girlfriend for a week… and unwittingly falls in love with her. While she wishes for the switch, at the back of her mind she wonders whether it is worth it. The movie also has an excellent music score with songs like ‘Pretty Woman’ (Roy Orbison) and others.
7) Love Actually (2003) Satrring: Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson Christmas is approaching, and a group of people connected in some way, find themselves surrounded by love. There’s Hugh Grant as a prime minister who falls for a staff member, Liam Neeson as a widower counselling his son in the ways of love, Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman as a couple faced with infidelity, and Colin Firth as a writer who can’t resist the charms of his Portuguese maid.
8) Romeo + Juliet (1996) Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes Shakespeare’s immortal tale of star-crossed young lovers gets a new reworking with a younger and fresh cast. DiCaprio and Danes as the doomed teenaged children of rival industrialists give a great performance. Visually stunning with a wonderful soundtrack, this is a movie that is no miss.
9) The Proposal (2009) Starring: Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds A fun film that shows just how love can happen. Bullock is a hardnosed book editor who’s hated by her peers. Her boss transfers her to Canada. She does not want to go and so she forces her assistant Reynolds to marry her. Her agress, but what starts out as a business deal, turns into a wholesome romance when the two are forced to spend the weekend with the boys family.
10) A Walk to Remember (2002) Starring: Mandy Moore, Shane West In this Nicholas Spark novel-turned-movie, Moore plays a girl afflicted with leukemia whose life drastically changes when she meets a boy who is her exact opposite. He falls in love with her, but she just cannot take his love. A tear jerker and a moving story, Mandy Moore who is also a now forgotten pop star in real life, also contributes to the soundtrack.
TOP TEN HINDI ROMANTIC MOVIES
1) Bobby (1973) Directed by: Raj Kapoor Starring: Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia A love story between two teenagers Raj (Rishi Kapoor) , a big businessman’s son and Bobby, a fisherman’s daughter Bobby (Dimple Kapadia). The usual love angle erupts with the parents not in favor of the match. What do the love torn duo do, leave home and find true love.
2) Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981) Directed by: K. Balachandar Starring: Kamal Haasan, Rati Agnihotri It’s a love story of a south Indian guy Vasu (Kamal Hasan) and a north Indian girl Sapna (Rati Agnihotri). In another love triangle this case it’s the caste that comes in the way of love, as both totally belongs to different castes. What happens is the saddest part of the story. The movie had a mega music score with songs like ‘Mere Jeevansathi pyar kiye ja’ and lots more.
3) Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) Directed by: Sanjay Leela Bhansali Starring: Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Salman Khan blockbuster that paved the way for more romantic films of the like. The story revolves around an NRI guy named Sameer (Salman Khan) and a girl belonging to a traditional Gujarati family Nandini (Aishwarya Rai). After searching for her true love she prefers someone else.
4) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) Director: Karan Johar Starrring: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee Karan Johar’s directorial debut sees Shahrukh and his best friends, until the principal's daughter Tina (Rani Mukherjee) enters their lives. To Anjali (Kajol) she is just a part of their clique but to Rahul (Shahrukh) she is a lot more. Kajol is simply brilliant as a tomboyish collegiate who transforms herself to a mature woman. Shahrukh is himself. This movie needs in a love triangle with genuine heart. Shot overseas, the movie has a lingering theme song.
5) Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) Director: Karan Johar Starring: Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Kareena Kapoor. A top of the line star cast including the Big B, nad you have one blockbuster of a film that will literally make you cry. Yashwardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) is a man who is old fashioned and follows traditions. He believes that only the parents can take the best decisions for their children. He is saddened when he learns that his foster son Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) falls in love with a middle-class girl (Anjali) Kajol. Yashwardhan disowns him. This creates a rift between the two egotistical men. Rahul marries Anjali, moves to London with her and her younger sister Pooja (Kareena Kapoor). Years later, Rahul's younger brother Rohan (Hrithik Roshan) arrives in London, determined to reunite his family. There’s unflinching melodrama and lavish dance numbers like ‘You are my Soniya’ and lots more.
6) Dil Se (1998) Director: Mani Ratnam Starring: Shahrukh Khan and Manisha Koirala, Amrita Arora, Preity Zinta. The plot involves Megha (Manisha Koirala) is a suicide bomber and Amar (Shah Rukh Khan) is an intrigued journalist in a terrorist area. He meets up with Megha and falls in love with her. Megha tries all she can to get him reject him, but he persists. A tragic love story with a bitter ending. But between all this there is stirring music and dance sequences. The film was shot in parts of Kashmire, Assam, Delhi, Kerela, and other parts of India and Bhutan in a span of 55 days. Its cinematorgraphy won a National Film Award for cinematographer Santosh Sivan. The film's score and soundtrack were composed by A. R. Rehman who was awarded a Filmfare award. The movie has the very memorable song ‘Chaiya Chaiya’ and dance on the rooftop of a train.
7) Kaho Na Pyar Hai (2000) Director; Rakesh Roshan Starring; Hritik Roshan and Amisha Patel Struggling singer Rohit (Hrithik Roshan) and Sonia (Amisha Patel) fall in love through a variety of interesting situations. Tragedy erupts when Rohit witnesses corrupt police officers (Ashish Vidyarthi and Mohnish Behl) murder the police commissioner after he finds out about their illegal drug syndicate. The villains kill Rohit and Sonia is left heartbroken. She goes to New Zealand where she meets a young man named Raj (Hrithik again), who looks remarkably like our dead hero Rohit The new two return to India only to have the villains assume that Raj is Rohit and chase after him. The fun now begins. The did well at the box office and had super dance numbers like ‘Na Tum Jano Na Hum’, some scenic locations of Greece, Fiji Islands, New Zealand and some melodies by Lucky Ali.
8) Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) Director; Aditya Chopra Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol. Comedy and romance. This movie has its share of it. The movie tells the love story of non-residential- Indians and highlights the Indian cultures and values. The story takes place far away from India; in England. Raj (Shahrukh) is a rich Londoner. He goes Europe for a month's vacation. Simran (Kajol), also from London, does the same. After Raj and Simran play jokes on each other, Raj finally makes her miss her train and they are stuck alone in the mountains of Europe. By the time they both come back, the both fall in love with each other. But unknown to Raj, Simran's marriage has been arranged to someone else; now Raj has to win Simran back. Jatin-Lalit's songs are the highlights here and so is the choreography.
9) Saajan (1991) Directed by Lawrence D’Souza. Starring: Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit. The plot involves two friends, Aman (Sanjay Dutt) and Akash (Salman Khan) as well as Pooja Saxena (Madhuri Dixit). Both Aman and Akash fall in love for Pooja and at the end; one sacrifices his love for another. The film showcases many human emotions like happiness, sorrow, friendship, love and sacrifice. The music by Nadeem-Shravan is top notch.
10) Kal ho Na Ho (2003) Director: Nikhil Advani Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Jaya Bachchan The story is set on three friends whose relationship is based on unconditional love and emotional empathy with each other. Life is quite brooding for Naina Catherine Kapur (Preity Zinta) who lives in New York and is mourning her father’s death. The brooding also is for her half Punjabi-half Catholic household in which she has to deal with a short tempered grand-mother, look after her little sister and brother besides helping her mother Jennifer (Jaya Bachchan) deal with the family's financial troubles. But things change with the coming of Aman Mathur (Shah Rukh Khan) into the tiny Indian neighborhood where she lives. He tries to bring in happiness into her life, with the help of good friend Rohit (Saif Ali Khan), an eligible Manhattan bachelor. The three become very good friends until one of them suffers from a deadly disease.
